Slim Aarons

The Doctor of Engineering serves as a bridge between past and present, much like a time capsule that encapsulates the intellect of an aeronautical engineer amid the grandeur of ancient Roman architecture. Dr. Elio de Sabata, positioned on the remnants of a monumental statue, embodies the fusion of innovation and history, illustrating how modern expertise can coexist with timeless legacies in a single frame.

Doctor of Engineering captures a striking moment in 1982 Rome, where Slim Aarons photographed Dr. Elio de Sabata, an accomplished aeronautical engineer, seated on a monumental fragment of Constantine the Great's statue in the courtyard of the Palazzo dei Conservatori. The juxtaposition creates an arresting visual narrative where ancient Roman grandeur meets modern scientific achievement, de Sabata's contemporary presence against the weathered stone speaking to the enduring human pursuit of innovation across centuries. The historic palazzo courtyard, with its classical architecture framing this unlikely tableau, reveals Aarons' genius for finding extraordinary moments in everyday encounters.

Q: Prints are listed in cm and inches - what size will I receive?
We produce prints in both metric (cm) and imperial (inches) sizes. The sizing format depends on the product type and your delivery location. In almost all cases, the difference between metric and imperial conversions is only a few millimetres.

Q: How does the border affect the size of the print?
The total size of the print always matches the size you select. If you choose to add a border, it is included within that size and slightly reduces the image area.

Q: What are the dimensions if I order a framed print?
The size you select refers to the internal dimensions of the frame — the print size including any border. The frame moulding adds approximately an inch to each side, so the outer framed dimensions will be about 2 inches larger in both height and width.

Q: Are these limited-edition or numbered prints?
All prints are not produced in fixed or numbered editions. Each piece is made to order using archival pigment inks on museum-grade fine-art paper for exceptional clarity and longevity.
